Roman soldiers stared across the road at British World War II soldiers in Mtarfa today as the second edition of Military Mtarfa festival brought together re-enactors of various epochs.

The festival, attended by hundreds of people, featured attacks by Roman soldiers in their trademark box formation, pitched battles by Napoleon's soldiers and British troops, and World War II urban warfare between German, English and American forces.

Enthusiasts of miliaria could also admire vintage guns and military transport, as well as a display of more modern light weapons and communications equipment put up by the AFM.

There was also an exhibition of Mtarfa's own history as a barracks city and its military hospital.

The festival was organised by Mtarfa local council with assistance from the Secretariat for Tourism and the Secretariat for local councils.
