St Margaret College Żabbar Primary A recently won the Microsoft Malta Innovative Teachers Forum - a competition held by Microsoft Malta in collaboration with the Curri-culum Management and eLearning Department.
Participating educators were given the opportunity to show how in their daily work they are helping children learn, using technology in creative and new ways, and encouraging children to build skills that will better prepare them for the future.
Two Year 2 teachers, Marika Vella Montebello and Charmaine Bartolo, as well as Elaine Camilleri, a learning support assistant, were declared the winners of this local competition.
They presented two story books created with the use of a range of software. The story books featured children's ideas regarding healthy eating and personal hygiene. The idea was based on a number of school aims developed by staff members in the School Development Plan 2009-2012.
The three educators chose the theme of 'Promoting Healthy Living' to build their story-based project with their students aged between six and seven. They integrated innovative technology tools in different areas of the curriculum.
Microsoft's Partners in Learning provided the opportunity for the local winners to showcase their innovative project on teaching through technology at the Microsoft European Innovative Education Forum in Berlin last March.
During this event, the three educators, with the help of the academic programme manager from Microsoft Malta, Fabianne Ruggier, and their school head Alfred Debattista, had the opportunity to participate in the European forum, sharing their project and learning from the different ideas of the 44 participating countries.
