Chiara to make fourth 'appearance' at Eurovision
Chiara on stage.
Malta's Eurovision veteran Chiara will read out the results of the Maltese televoting on the Eurovision final night.
Chiara represented Malta three times, first placing third in 1998, second in 2005, and a disappointing 22nd last year after qualifying for the final.
Head of delegation Joe Dimech said Chiara had expressed interest in being the one to read out the votes since this was the only thing she had not yet experienced from Eurovision.
Chiara came within a whisker of winning in 1998 but the last country to vote did not give her a single vote, pushing her down to third place and leading commentators to say that she was "robbed" of her title.
Pauline Agius read the points awarded by Malta last year.
THEA RELAXES
Meanwhile, this year's Maltese Eurovision starlet, Thea, has a bit of a relaxing weekend ahead of her after a busy week's schedule of rehearsals, press conferences and interviews.
Tonight Thea, who loves musical theatre and dreams of performing on the West End, will sing songs from Phantom of the Opera during the Polish Eurovision party together with Poland's representative Marcin Mrozinski. She had been spending the day resting, but will also find time to rehearse before the party.
Members of Malta's delegation said Thea was getting on very well with most of the participants and journalists.
But competition is tough and her chances of qualifying to the final on Tuesday are still in the balance, with most betting firms predicting that she will place between 10th and 13th place. She needs to be part of the top 10 out of 17 countries to qualify.
The Google Eurovision predictor which only recently claimed that Thea was the third singer to be generating most online interest, has now placed her eighth, with Germany, Georgia and Sweden in first, second and third place respectively.
Things are literally heating up in Oslo, which has become a hub of Eurovision activities, with temperatures rising to 23 degrees and flamboyant fans from all over Europe filling up hotels as they gather for their favourite annual event.
Thea's next rehearsals at the Telenor Arena are on Monday, the night before her semi-final.

The possibilities are endless for Chiara! Next year she can count the votes, the year she can hold the camera and the following she can present the trophy. Why bother......we have politicians who take rounds at musical chairs!!!!!

I waited till now as I thought someone will come up with this question: Is it perhaps there is some kind of “hidden agenda” going on behind the “scene”? Food for thought, Who is still managing her??!!

“Poor Chiara has entered in the black book of the doomers & gloomers also!!!”.. for your information I was probable one of the first (if not the first, can’t recall) that I congratulate her when she won here in Malta. And yes I agree with you about her voice. But when I heard her calling names about other singers well, for sure that is not professionalism.

Is this a sort of a thank you to Chiara for voting declaring her vote to the PN before the referendum?

Chiara is a singer and that's it. The reading of results should be left to presenters. New people should be given the opportunities.

"Chiara came within a whisker of winning in 1998 but the last country to vote did not give her a single vote, pushing her down to third place and leading commentators to say that she was "robbed" of her title."
There's a technical issue here which always seems to be overlooked. I don't agree that Chiara was robbed of her title in 1998. The fact is that Chiara knocked (what was clearly accidental, although some may want to argue the point) the microphone-stand at the finishing seconds of her song. Incidentally, one of the Belgian singers (Urban Trad) did similarly the same thing in 2003, and Belgium also ended up within a tiny margin of winning that year.
A singer's manual would usually state that the singer may place their hand on the microphone, but not hold the stand, let alone knocking it. I remain convinced that that unfortunate knock in 1998 was what cost Malta a first spot. Chiara appeared to be trying to mitigate the effect, but the jury would have picked it up. I don't think anyone could have ever got as close as that, and that's why Chiara will remain remembered as Eurovision folklore.

With all due respect to Chiara and her phenomenal voice, I feel this is going to be in a somewhat of bad taste. I feel that this could be interpreted as a ploy to get more people to vote for Malta (taking into consideration the neighbour-voting issue), since Chiara is now well known and also has been quite well received internationally as regards the Eurovision.
I feel than any singer's role is on stage as simply that,..... and I think we should just let the votes be read out by any charismatic character, who doesn't even have to be a TV/Media Celebrity!
Chiara what's done is done, but last year's placing isn't the only thing that should or will remain in people's minds. At least not the humane ones. You have done us proud twice. Never forget that. :)

I think DJ Gianni would have been Perfect to read the results..
There was someone (I forgot which Country) who read votes a few years ago, and he started off with " Ok... The time to read the votes, so here I go", and then pretended to get up and walk off.... really added a humorous flair to the contest, and was the ONLY thing that was memorable about the whole contest.
