Fulham miss out on Euro glory
55th time UK team figures in UEFA final
Although Fulham played to the bitter end to claim their first ever trophy in the continent, Dame Luck was not on the Londoners' side on May 12 when Atletico Madrid went on to win the Europa League final after extra time in Hamburg.
At the final whistle, some Fulham players broke into tears... they were physically drained after a long and dour campaign.
Their fans, who bravely backed the Cottagers at home and in Europe, could not believe their eyes when their team lost a season of toil at the very last minute.
Hodgson's marathon men, however, sported a smile the day after the final when manager Roy Hodgson told reporters that he would be at Craven Cottage next season, turning down the overtures of more-quoted clubs who were after his services.
Hodgson, voted League Managers' Association manager of the year, assured the Fulham fans he won't change club and that he was unbelievably proud of his players' performances.
Fulham's astounding run to the final made it a 55th time that a team from the United Kingdom had reached the ultimate stage of a UEFA competition for clubs.
It was also the 16th appearance of a London team in a European final.
