The Maltese diet is being analysed by the Malta Standards Authority for a clearer picture of what the Maltese ate, the Parliamentary Secretary for Consumers, Chris Said said.

Dr Said said that information about what the Maltese ate was collected in the past two months when hundreds of Maltese and Gozitans were asked to keep a detailed diary of what their food and drink intake day by day.

This analysis, he said, should lead to a clear picture of what the Maltese consumed most and identify particular problems caused by the over or under consumption of certain products.

Dr Said stressed the importance that messages in favour of a balanced diet were consistent so as to influence choices and reduce obesity.

He was speaking at an activity at the Kirkop Primary promoting a healthy breakfast.

The activity was held by the school and the council in preparation for the Irkotta Fest being held in the locality this weekend.
