The patients of ward JP3 at St Vincent de Paul are being subjected to continuous loud music, from seven in the morning till after 7 p.m., with a three-hour break from noon to 3 p.m. Music is relayed to a number of speakers which are installed all over, even in bedrooms. No consideration at all is given to the age of these patients and no sensitivity at all is shown when one of these patients is near the point of dying.
A relative of ours is driven mad by the noise. One would expect that each patient is given the right to listen to her favourite type of music or radio programme at any time she chooses and the right to enjoy complete silence whenever she wants to. Why on earth is disco type music broadcast at high volume to each and every patient, all of whom are advanced in age, at most times of the day?
