Ever since DVDs appeared in the local market in the late 90s, we have been hearing of police arraigning people in court accusing them of trading in pirated DVDs. It's become a national joke as anybody who visits the stalls of any of the Montis set up in different villages or pops in most of the DVD renters all over Malta and Gozo, he's bound to find literally thousands of pirated DVDs. Which really means that the police are closing both eyes most of the time and then, once every few months, they try to give us the impression that they are doing something about it. Typical of this Mickey Mouse island of ours.
