The apartments recently issued for sale at a subsidised rate by the Housing Authority had already been for sale two years ago but they were not taken up because of their price, the PL said today.

The Labour Party’s spokesman on Housing, Roderick Galdes, said in a statement that the prices being requested by the authority compared well to what was available privately. So was the government’s housing policy addressing the most acute problems in the sector?

Moreover, it did not seem that the HA made the requested price reductions. While the private sector was reducing prices because of drop in demand, the government did not seem to be considering this possibility.

In spite of this situation, there were more than 2,600 families with a low income who were on the waiting list for alternative accommodation, Mr Galdes said.
