The 16 administrative committees which were created following the process to renew local councils will be getting a budget of 1.8 million euros, the Parliamentary Secretary responsible for councils, Chris Said, said.

He was addressing the first meeting for the members elected on these committees, who would also have the possibility to use other funds and who would have access to an additional 40 million euros a year.

Dr Said said that in the coming weeks, the members of these councils would be given around 25 hours of training.

40 members were elected in eight communities in March and the second group of elections is being held on June 5. There will be a total of 80 members in 16 localities.
