Pope urges Church to continue to collaborate with authorities on safeguarding of children
Pope Benedict has urged the Church in Malta to continue to collaborate with the civil authorities to keep Catholic institutions exemplary in the safeguarding of children, the Secretary of State of the Holy See told the Prime Minister in a letter.
The letter, dated April 29, was conveyed to Dr Gonzi today by the Apostolic Nuncio today.
In his letter, the Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, conveyed the Pope's gratitude to the government for the welcome given to him during his visit to Malta.
He said that the Pope "is confident that your government will continue to be faithful to the great Christian heritage of your islands through the letter and spirit of your laws and customs."
One of the highlights of the Pope's visit to Malta had been his meeting with men who said they were sexually abused while they were children in Church Homes.

Thank God, the great majority of Maltese and Gozitans are Catholic and Catholic want to remain. We can easily say that 95% of Maltese and Gozitans are Catholic and this can be proven by the parish priests themselves in their regular contact they have with their parishioners.
The great majority of Maltese and Gozitans love the Pope, their bishops and priests. They help the Church in her needs and look at the Church as their sincere and sure Mother who can help them to attain eternal life.

Well, we all know enough, and we have known it for long enough. At this stage, does anyone really care what the pope says, or what the leaders in a specific country say? They never agree, anyway. Some of them say they want to abuse children, and its' their right to do so, being religious people - others say they want to abuse children, but keep it hidden since it's not good behaviour to be seen by the public - and then there's others still who say that they shouldn't abuse children. But who to believe? The only few people still defending the church probably have great interests in doing so, for whatever hidden reasons they might have. The rest of us will just ignore the roman catholic church and let it be its own demise. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

We defend the Catholic Church because she is the ONLY one holy Church that Christ founded. Her duration until the end of time has already been guaranteed by Christ himself. Those who love Christ, love his one Christian Catholic Church against which the whole of hell can't do anything. Her doctrine is infallible and beneficial to all people, Catholics or not.

Just in case you haven't heard Mr. one vision Zammit. Portugal has today passed legislation making marriage between same sex couples legal, despite the heavy propaganda by a Church and a Pope who refuse to listen.
Mean while in Malta the Church still holds to the law of omerta when it comes to it's own sins, and a Government that is still not with all it's people.

Homosexual acts are grave sins and no one who loves God can in any way support them, let alone bless them. The alleged victims could, and still can, lodge a complaint to the police. There is no omerta involved. No omerta can withhold any alleged victim from taking criminal steps. The omerta is only an excuse!

Homosexual acts are grave sins that separate the offender from God and put him or her on the path to hell. They are horrible sins against God, against the virtue of love and against nature itself.

The church in Malta is ignoring the pope's directions
Here they want to still protect the crimes of these criminals.
Thanks

Can you mention the name of just one Maltese criminal priest? Otherwise your words are just groundless.

The Curia Response Team has NO DUTY to reveal what it hears. Rather it HAS THE DUTY NOT TO REVEAL ANYTHING. The Curia Response Team is not a court!
In case the alleged victims, and only the ALLEGED victims could, and still can, lodge a complaint to the police. They can opt to forgive completely as well and no one can for that matter tell them off.

The pope must have been grossly misinformed. Fact is the Church in Malta has never collaborated with the civil authorities to keep Catholic institutions exemplary in the safeguarding of children. With the excuse of shielding the child victims, the Curia shrouds the proceedings of the Response Team in secrecy to protect the aggressors - the paedophile priests - and its own reputation. The Church in Malta keeps all files and documents hidden in the secret archives of the curia. The pope must order the Archbishop to immediately hand over all files and documents relating to priest sexual abuse to the police.

The cases of paedophilia involving priests in Malta are minimal. The great great majority of priests that have been looking after our young for ages have never been involved in such acts. Thank God for our dear Maltese priests!

Our Criminal Law is what it is. No criminal action against offenders of sexual offences can be taken unless there is the complaint of the injured party. And still the alleged victim can stop any criminal action taken in his or her favour at any time before or after the sentence. So no one can accuse the Catholic Church in Malta of any cover up! The alleged victims had every right to lodge a complaint with the police at any time. The Church could not stop them. Of course, these sexual crimes can be taken cognizance of ex officio as well in certain cases contemplated by our Criminal Law.

That's right, Mr Zammit, keep your head well buried in the sand! When in a hole, the best thing that one can do is to stop digging.

Wally, mention one Maltese paedophile priest that you have succeeded to dig out!

Don't just advise Joe Zammit to keep his head well buried in the sand and simultaneously to stop digging - very wise advice indeed!! Next, show us how smart you really are by explaining to him (and to me) precisely where the facts stated by him are wrong - provided, of course, that the task is not beyond you.

Does the right hand know what the left hand is doing? Did we not read in yesterday's papers that the Church has no intention of sharing information about child abuse cases which come to its knowledge? The state of panic in the RCC has now reached such levels that it is resorting to tactics employed by the great dictators. Assembling hundreds of thousand of flag and slogan waving supporters in the square to cheer their leader in the hope of conveying an impression that all is fine and dandy. This usually precedes the great collapse.

Funny you mention yesterdays news here reported. I also read about something else relating to abuse in yesterdays World News section here. Not even one comment did I observe from the well cultured theatrical elite. !!

Charles, there is no collapse! The survival of the Catholic Church has already been guaranteed by Christ himself and Christ will NEVER let her down. The Catholic Church continues to grow in number and holiness every day and her enemies will ONLY strengthen her. In the end her enemies will disappear and she will emerge more beautiful and marvellous than ever!
