Although Institute of Tourism Studies qualifications are recognised and accredited by the Malta Qualifications Council, they are of little value when it comes for them to be valued for a teaching post within the ITS school, the issuing body of ITS certificates and diplomas. Upon presentation of ITS qualifications and other relevant high academic qualifications, what the appointed selection board and the ITS management will tell you is that either you are overqualified or you lack teaching experience.

Although this mentioned teaching experience is based on no teaching qualification or any academically related qualification, it is preferred over any high level academic qualification, according to the selection board that is responsible for selection of lecturing staff for ITS.

Since this has happened to me already twice when applying for a teaching period on a definite contract at both ITS schools of Malta and Gozo, my concerns are how can ITS assume that the catering industry recognises its academic qualifications that are annually awarded to successful students when then ITS itself does not recognise its own qualifications?
