The photo published with the letter by Oliver Tanti (A Sorely Missed Local Councillor, May 8) is of private property which is currently in disuse. Apart from this, this property lies on an arterial road, and therefore falls within the responsibility of the central government and not of the Swieqi local council.
The Swieqi council assumes collective responsibility for all its actions. Any credit or demerits that the council may have are the result of a whole team of seven dedicated councillors and not of anyone in particular.
Residents in the locality of Swieqi take the credit too for the Performance Indication Reports presented by the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Councils during a recent Parliament sitting.
For the sake of all who have at heart the interests of our locality, we are proud to announce that contrary to the wrong impression being given by the writer, Swieqi is one of the only 10 councils in Malta and Gozo which scored higher than the average mark of 7. Such performance indicator is given for cleanliness and overall efficiency. These indicators are carried out by independent inspectors within the central government.
We will continue to do better, but to achieve better results we need the collaboration of the thousands of Paceville revellers and foreigners who litter our streets during the weekends and every day during the summer months.
