Le Meridien joins Green Pak scheme

Le Meridien Hotel and Spa, St Julian's, has recently started participating in Green Pak's Hotel Waste Recovery Scheme. Green Pak has been in operation since 2004 and is assisting hotels with their waste separation.

Since April 1, hotels in Malta have been charged a landfill rate of €20 per tonne. Hotels are starting to take measures to recycle in order to contain these increased fees.

The Green Pak Scheme has made it easier for hotels to recycle. It collects hotels' packaged waste and sends it to a Malta Environment and Planning Authority approved facility to be sorted and prepared for recycling.

A Green Pak waste education officer has engaged the majority of Le Meridien staff in training sessions to enable them to uptake and understand the economic and environmental benefits of the scheme.
