Antonio Mizzi, the president of the Malta Basketball Association (MBA), was re-elected on the FIBA Europe board following an election at the FIBA headquarters in Munich yesterday.

Magistrate Mizzi obtained 41 votes out of a possible 49 and he was ninth out of 32 candidates in the ballot.

The MBA said in a statement that this is the third time that Magistrate Mizzi has been elected to serve at the top of the European basketball body.

"This confirms, once again, that Malta is highly esteemed at top levels," the statement said.

Meanwhile, FIBA Europe has a new president.

In Munich, Olafur Rafnsson, of Iceland, defeated incumbent Turgay Demirel, of Turkey, after winning 32 of the 51 votes cast.
