A detail of a giant predatory Cretaceous period (145 million to 65 million years ago) fish, discovered in Kansas, on display before sale at auction, in Los Angeles. Bonhams & Butterfields upcoming National History Auction, on May 27 in New York, will afford bidders the opportunity to own an unusal selection of prehistoric fossils, archaeological artifacts, gold nuggets, meteorite slices and even a Martian meteorite discovered in the Mojave Desert in 1999. The fish, known as Xiphactinus audax, is approximately four metres long and has an estimated sale price of between €118,000 and €158,000.
