A small piece of history was written in the annals of local cricket this week when a first women's team practised the game at Marsa.

On Tuesday, the Birkirkara Alligators rugby girls put aside the larger oval ball and tried their hand at the smaller red one. The rugby players needed to get acquainted with the game as only a few of them had actually heard of cricket before.

The Alligators had a go at batting, bowling and fielding and the session was capped off with a game.

In various parts of the globe, cricket is wrongly associated with men only. At present there are two world tournaments going on in West Indies, and one of them is reserved for women only.
