Be green, visitors to Gozo told
"Don't waste water while in Gozo." "That's it!" says the bee on the new posters in the Eco-Gozo campaign, printed on recycled paper.
When in Gozo, do not leave the lights on or the water running, a bee advises visitors to the island in a poster campaign launched yesterday by the Gozo Ministry.
Minister Giovanna Debono said the campaign was aimed at promoting the eco-Gozo vision, on which the government will spend €25 million over three years.
The posters are targeted at Maltese visitors, who seem to have gained a reputation for disregarding their environmental responsibilities while on holiday by leaving lights on, littering and wasting water. The messages tell them to carry on separating waste but not to waste water and electricity, the Minister said, adding this counted for Gozitans too.
The campaign also touches on work and Gozitan identity, the two other pillars of the eco-Gozo vision.
The launch of the campaign comes only days after several mounds of rubble were discovered in the scenic Dwejra area, causing people to wonder if this was what eco-Gozo was all about.

There is no such thing as eco-Gozo, so why is it being promoted at the tax-payers expense?
It would be a better idea to spend the 25 million on improving the roads and by that I do not mean the few spadefuls of sticky tarmac covered gravel, thrown into some of the potholes and maybe squashed down by a shovel if the worker is feeling energetic!
Shame on the Ministry for ignoring important things like rubble dumped at Dwejra and the proposed destruction of Hondoq in the name of 'ECO-GOZO'. However, I suppose that things like this are not lucrative enough?

I've been coming to Gozo for years and have been practicing this without being told to do so by a bee! How can Minister Giovanna Debono seriously talk of an eco-Gozo concept when she has been shown to support the proposed marina project at Hondoq and the white elephant airstrip idea?

How can I be green in Gozo? When I go over the weekend and return Sunday afternoon, in the village where I stay, Ghajnsielem, there are no public bins to put our black waste bag. When I phoned the Local Council and asked for at least on public facility in the whole of the village, guess what was the answer! "Take it with you to Malta in the car".
Imagine having a bag of waste in the car from Ghajnsielem to Fgura!!!

There's the good old method of keeping stuff temporally in your pocket.
Unless you're planning to dump a broken washing machine?

What is this a joke? Eco-Gozo is above other things about stopping the over-development madness going on. What is necessary and with urgency is political will against this lawlessness. No a BEE advising visitors what to do!

Exactly!
That's the kind of response we need from a certain Planning Authority.
Happens that MEPA HQ is in Malta...
