A man in an extramarital affair was given a suspended sentence for trying to run over the angry husband.

The lover, of Żejtun, pleaded guilty trying to seriously injure a jealous husband, from Attard, who caught him having an affair with his wife. The men, whose names cannot be published by court order, had an argument in Żabbar at about 6.15 p.m. on Monday when the husband confronted his wife's lover and started insulting him. As a result, the lover tried to run him over.

The lover pleaded guilty to trying to seriously injure the husband and driving dangerously.

Magistrate Anthony Vella handed down a one-year jail term suspended for two and suspended his driving licence for a month.

Police Inspector Jesmond Borg prosecuted.

Lawyer Neville Camilleri appeared for the lover.
