With reference to the excellent leader of May 7 (One For The Road Is Definitely One Too Many), here are some facts.

Adolescents who begin drinking before age 15 are four times more likely to develop alcohol dependence than those who begin drinking at age 21 (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism - US).

On the other hand, a child who reaches the age of 21 without smoking, abusing alcohol or using drugs is virtually certain never to do so. (chairman, The National Centre on Addiction and Substance Abuse, Columbia University, US).
