Low-scoring match at Safi ground

The Captain's XI played the Chairman's XI in a 20-over game at the Safi ground last weekend.

The Captain's team batted first after winning the toss. With six runs on the board, they lost two wickets, that of John Grima (four runs) and Darren Grech. Both were bowled by Nowell Khosla.

The bad news for Captain's XI did not stop there as Sarfraz Ali was bowled in the following over by Sam Aquilina for just one run.

But, Ronnie Sacco (20) and Mike Caruana (25) soon picked up the scoring rate before the latter was dismissed by Aquilina and Sacco was caught and bowled by Derek Ali.

Gordon Hewitt then added another 20, including two boundaries, before he was caught off the bowling of Adam Caruana.

The Captain's XI had to settle for a mere 80 runs but their bowling performance was better.

Joy Ghoseroy (three runs) was out in the third over by Grech as opening partner Will Nicholls only managed 14 runs, the best tally for his side.

Sam Aquilina (bowled by Gordon Hewitt), Nowell Khosla (lbw off John Grima) and Derek Ali and Adam Caruana, both bowled by Mike Caruana, could only add seven runs each. The Chairman's team were out for 48 runs.

On Thursday, Marsa play HMS Lancaster in a 20-over match at the Marsa ground, starting at 4 p.m.

Over the weekend, the locals play Brampton Bryan & Leintwardine in a two-game series, both games starting at 10.30 a.m.
