The Royal Navy frigate HMS Lancaster is visiting Grand Harbour between today and Saturday.
HMS Lancaster is the fourth of the Type 23 class of frigates. It was launched by The Queen in May 1990, and was commissioned two years later.
The Portsmouth-based warship is returning to the UK after a seven-month deployment to conduct maritime security operations in the Middle East, supporting international efforts to counter illegal activity.
During her deployment, the ship was active in detecting, disrupting and deterring pirate activity off the coast of Somalia. The ship also conducted operations in the Strait of Hormuz, Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Oman, Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and the Red Sea to help provide security and stability in the area.
Since leaving the UK at the very end of October HMS Lancaster visited a number of ports including Gibraltar, Souda in Crete, Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, Salalah and Muscat in Oman, and Dubai in the UAE.
HMS Lancaster will be berthed at Pinto Wharf but will not be open to the public.
