The volcanic ash cloud which has appeared once more over Europe has, over the past few days, seen the cancellation of 12 flights to and from Malta, the secretariat for tourism said this afternoon.

Air Malta had to cancel services to Milan and Stuttgart, Ryanair cancelled flights from Dublin, Edinburgh and Madrid while Veuling cancelled a flight from Barcelona. In all, the flights carried some 1,000 passengers, of whom 700 were tourists.

The secretariat and the Malta Tourism Authority said they were monitoring the situation.
