Roma skipper Francesco Totti has been handed a four-match suspension for being sent off in the 1-0 loss to Inter in the Coppa Italia final.

The veteran striker was given his marching orders two minutes from time on Wednesday for kicking the ankle of Inter's Mario Balotelli.

Totti claimed that the Ghana-born Balotelli had targeted him with insults and that he had reacted to this.

The Inter striker denied Totti's claims and said instead that he had hurled racial abuse at him.

The Roma player will purge his sanction at the start of next year's cup competition.
