Alex Borg, of Juventutis Domus Club, Żejtun, won the fourth and final snooker ranking tournament for the season organised by the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association (MBSA).

The competition came to a close on Friday evening at the Melita Band Club, Msida, when Borg beat Duncan Bezzina, of 147 Snooker Hall, Ħamrun, 6-0 in the final.

As the scoreline indicates, Borg was in good form and potted breaks of 45 and 54 to take a 2-0 lead. He went 5-0 up before the mid-session interval with another run of 46 in the fifth frame.

When play resumed Borg compiled a break of 79 to secure victory. The final was controlled by referee Joe Debono.

Frame scores (Borg first): 66(45)-0, 77(54)-8, 77-23, 55-19, 70(46)-14, 79(79)-24.

At the end of the match, Joe Caruana Curran, the association president, distributed trophies to the finalists. The highest break of the tournament was made by Bezzina - 113 points.

Borg finished top of the official ranking list with 5,150 points followed by Bezzina, 4,250, and Simon Camilleri, 3,170.

The MBSA season continues this week with the second round matches from the billiards cham-pionship. The final of this com-petition will be played on May 21.
