Joe Mifsud to seek re-election
MFA President Joe Mifsud has confirmed that he will seek re-election to the helm of the association.
He announced his decision at a meeting of the council yesterday, informed sources said.
Dr Mifsud has been president for 18 years.
His main rival will again be Norman Darmanin Demajo, who was narrowly defeated by Dr Mifsud three years ago.
The election is expected to be held in July.

joe mifsud has been there too long. for all his merits, his ways are authoritarian and that is no longer acceptable today.

Neville, it should also be noted that what Dr Mifsud promised at the last election was fulfilled. He did get the money from UEFA for many artificial grounds around the island did he?

I believe that Mr. Darmanin Demajo is a very capable man, however, many Maltese football enthusiasts have forgotten that Dr.Mifsud is the most succesful MFA President to date. He is Vice-President of UEFA, and a former FIFA executive committe Member. During his reign sports facilities in Malta have beed constantly upgrading, including the centenary stadium, artificial pitches all around the island, and the National stadium's recently built state of the art stand. Moreover, even tough a lot of money has been invested the MFA does not have financial difficulties. And as regards to sporting results, under his reign the Maltese national team has acquired (5 points) the largest number of points during the qualifications for the UEFA EURO 2008 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2008_qualifying). So why remove him? Why losing such a capable person who still has much more to give? He is irreplacable and we will know that only when he is no longer there.

Not with the people around him. They seem very unconvincing are they? It seems to be too late this time.

Thank you Dr. Mifsud, for all your work done throughout these years, and I believe in the opinion of many football followers it is time for a change. Hopefully we will have a new President representing Maltese football.

A change at the top of the MFA has long been needed, but it's next to impossible to materialise. More of Mr Darmanin Demajo's stature and guts are needed within the MFA if things are to start moving. Good luck, Norman.
