In his letter of April 30, my friend Godwin Drago wrote about the Latin inscription discovered on a piece of Roman pottery excavated many years ago and which was never deciphered.

I recall an equally puzzling inscription, seemingly in Latin, which I had come across. This was carved on a wooden bench situated in a peaceful and secluded area of an enchanting English garden: “Ore stabit, fortis arare placeto restat”.
