I always thought that when Air Malta was incubated the reason behind it was to give Maltese travellers a choice of a local airline with affordable prices. I have just done an exercise by trying to book online.
Going to Manchester from Malta on July 6 and coming back on the 14th would cost me the princely sum of €277.15. However, travelling from Manchester to Malta and back on identical dates would cost me a mere €128.59. Why the difference?
Can the airline justify this and maybe present me with a reasonable excuse for this exuberant price difference? Do not tell me that the demand for a Malta-Manchester-Malta trip is higher than the other way round because I would never believe that.
The fact is that they try to fleece their own hoping they would entice the British tourists to come over here at a cheap rate.
I'm afraid Air Malta would have to think twice about this, especially now that they have competition from cheaper airlines.
I have always travelled with Air Malta and I too am a frequent traveller but where does it get me? I am constantly asked to spend more money with the carrier but I am afraid I shall have to seek other ways of getting to my hometown Manchester when I need to go to visit my relations.
Whoever is in charge of Air Malta should sit down and discuss the dilemma, revise the price structure and I am pretty sure that those who are turning their back on it for cheaper flights might come flocking back.
I hope I will get an answer.
