Newly set up Malta venture Intellimare, a marine systems firm, has finalised a prototype for an innovative intelligent mooring assistance system. Currently seeking investors interested in advancing the hi-tech marine field, Intellimare strives to innovate and sculpt the future of the marine industry through research and development into novel products.

It is the first local Maltese marine hi-tech company established in the marine business port, following earlier established foreign-owned companies in the unique Marine Software Engineering Cluster of Excellence.

The MARSEC-XL Foundation is a non-profit foundation established in Malta in 2007 which sets out to shape the digital future of the marine industry through systems and software engineering.

With an open innovation model in mind, Intellimare, will with the foundation, lead the innovation of marine software systems, seeking to reduce pollution in vessels and other sectors of the industry.

"Our vision is that in the near future sea-bound vessels will be powered by technologies born at Intellimare," chief executive officer Zak Borg, said.

The Marine Business Port is the unit in MARSEC-XL dedicated to hosting the entities in the cluster of excellence. Two foundations and five companies have been established within the Valletta-based cluster.
