Patients transfer from Zammit Clapp next week

Patients receiving long-term rehabilitation at Zammit Clapp Hospital will be transferred to Karin Grech Hospital between Monday and Thursday.

A spokesman for the Community Care Secretariat said Zammit Clapp, the former Blue Sisters Hospital, would be converted into an old people's home.

He explained that Karin Grech was chosen to assume the role of a rehabilitation hospital because it offered more beds. It was also expected to ease the pressure on Mater Dei Hospital.

Some 60 patients will be transferred to Karin Grech in the migration process. Karin Grech will offer services for 153 patients.

Zammit Clapp had originally been earmarked as an oncology hospital, taking over the role of Boffa Hospital but the government later decided to build the oncology centre on the grounds of Mater Dei.
