55 trees vandalised near Siggiewi
Some 55 eucalyptus trees were chopped down today in the second vandalism attack of this kind in a few weeks. The trees had formed a grove near Siggiewi.
A total of 104 trees were vandalised last month at the Foresta 2000 site near Mellieha.

I hope these people if you can called them people you cant call them animals either because I never seen an animal destroying trees,if caught they should be made to pay for the damage re plant them again themselves and if they don't have any money there assets be taken and send to prison for a long time there is no other way to teach these these low life people, how can you take your anger on a tree they don't have a spine to face who they are angry for.

well.well.well....i wish to thank these vandals...and the next time they want to vandilise somewhere, they better vandalise their properties rather than the maltese environment....i'm sry to say, but in these cases these people are showing how ignorant and stupid they are. I hope that justice will be done even though without evidence the police cannot do miracles. The vandalism being done will lead for a bad reputation for Malta amongst tourist...and also its a great drawback for all the projects being done in favour of the environment. what a shame.....I hope that the Siggiewi Local council will act as the Melliha council did.

Para 7 :
A final schedule lists a number of species, such as the Acacias (Acacia spp., Akacja), the Castor Oil Tree (Ricinus communis, Rignu) and the Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus spp., Ewkaliptus) which are alien, invasive or incompatible with Maltese biodiversity. It is being proposed that their use should be illegal, and MEPA may order the removal of such trees which are considered to be damaging.

What is the idea of vandalizing trees? What does this lowlife and or low lives hope to accomplish by destroying these trees? Hope these people are caught and fined heavily to pay for the damage and the cost of replacing these trees. What is happening going to peaceful Malta? Vandalism and hate is sending nothing but bad vibes to tourists which are vital to Malta's economy. Drugs, hold ups, gang muggings, corruption, illegal immigration, guess we come a long way and not in the right direction. Welcome to Malta. A few years back all that was wrong with Malta was the crazy drivers but now it's just another country like any other. How sad.

Whilst disapproving totally of vandalism, eucalyptus trees are totally inappropriate to Maltese environments as they take up too much precious water. Olea europea (Olive) and Pinus halepensis (Aleppo Pine) were amongst the trees that used to cover Malta, showing adaptations to thrive here on limited water supply. Once again, shame for vandalising trees, we need them so much in Malta, we have too little greenery!!!

why do you always blame everything on the hunters? have you ever thought about BLM doing this or CABS to make hunters look even worse? Why would the hunters destroy something that they themselves built or at least help built? if it wasn't for the hunters we wouldn't have all these trees in the first place

My question is: why?

Easy: When there is an axe to grind, they do that since they know that It hurts environmentalists, like you and I.
No problem - go on. But you certainly no get a carte blanche on what you want, not even with a change in government because now there is the EU to protect Malta.
I also appeal to Dr. Joseph Muscat and on the opposition to stop doing working groups and give false impressions that should the command change, a certain minority sector will gain anymore benefits than they have now.
As you appeal to the government MPs to vote against the powerstation extension, I appeal to you to join the government in not only condeming the attack on the environment but to publically say that no group should expect any favours.
I suspect that now we will also get paint thrown at the dingli chappel?

@ G Debono
Are you sure it was hunters?
Was anyone apprehended?
Are you a witness?
Are you sure that no anti did this so that the hunters would get a bad name?
Strange usually BLM parade dead birds,.....now this year all of a sudden the dead birds vanished and the trees popped up!!!!

Considering that this sort of attack is directly harming the local environment and, indirectly, the health and well-being of the population of the islands, harsh penalties and stronger environmental monitoring and enforcement should be applied with utmost priority, a course of action which should be demanded and strongly supported by both government and the opposition.

I am aware there is a lot of crime and violence in the UK, i would attribute a lot of it to drug prohibition and the criminal gangsters it produces hence showing the war on drugs is lost and the only way to cut crime is to look at and change drug policy. Alcohol is also a big contributor and this has to also be looked at closer. I dont see much crime in the UK but then i live in a nice rural area Car theft has dropped since it is so hard to steal modern cars and burglary has gone down down dramatically since it's pretty hard to rob a 42 inch Plasma TV and not be seen these days. I have been reading the TOM for the past 5 years since returning from Malta to the UK, crime seems to have increased dramatically, violent crime seems up, drug crime is out of control and simply unstoppable with current laws, domestic abuse crime seems up, arson is in the news every week and now enviromental crime!
It seems like the gap between rich and poor is greater than anytime as well. cont:

Well obviously they start chopping down trees now... they are not needed anymore by the hunters.
Do I have a right to say that? Maybe not.... still it's the case until I am being proved wrong...

Well obviously they start chopping down trees now... antis will use the trees as a weapon because everybody will blame the hunters and they will get a bad name.
Do I have a right to say that? Maybe not.... still it's the case until I am being proved wrong...
