Orphans and other children who live in institutions will be invited to attend tenor Joseph Calleja's summer concert as the popular singer insists on making classical music accessible to everyone.

"Classical music is not there just to be enjoyed by the elite. That is a misconception. It is a popular form of entertainment that can be enjoyed by anyone," Mr Calleja said, inviting people to attend his concert on July 24 at the Granaries, Floriana.

He will be performing with Italian and American legends Claudio Baglioni and Dionne Warwick during the annual summer concert, which will fuse elements of pop music with classical tunes.

Just as had been done during last year's concert, children who live in residential institutions will be invited to attend the event for free.

A choir of over 500 children will be one of the highlights of the event. "This is a smart way of helping the younger generation appreciate classical music. These children will go home whistling and singing the tunes they are learning during rehearsals," he said.

The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by British Maestro Paul Bateman, will also take part in the concert organised by NnG Promotions and supported by Vodafone and Malta International Airport.

Vodafone yesterday launched an initiative through which it is offering its customers a €10 discount on standing tickets.

Apart from getting the tickets for €25 they will have access to a zone enjoying good positioning. The discount is on a first come, first served basis until space in the area is filled.

Tickets for the concert can be purchased from Agenda, Vodafone and Exotique outlets or through the NNG Promotions website www.nngpromotions.com. The Vodafone discounted tickets can only be bought from the brand's outlets.
