Three men, a Briton, a Liberian and a Congolese, have been arrested after a big drugs find by Customs officers and the police after a tip-off that the heroin would be entering Malta on a flight from Brussels.

A 22-year-old British national was arrested on Sunday night after a kilo of heroin was found in his suitcase, which had a false bottom.

The police also arrested the alleged intended recipients of the drug, a 35-year-old Liberian living in St Paul's Bay and a 40-year-old man Congolese living in Marsascala. They were arrested at the Valletta bus terminus early yesterday afternoon.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi was informed of the find and appointed experts to help him in his enquiry.

All three men remain under arrest pending their arraignment in court in the coming days.
