MUMN disappointed over deployment of nurses
The Malta Union of Nurses complained today over the way how the Health Department had deployed newly-recruited nurses.
It said it had been the practice for new nurses to replace nurses who requested new postings, but this practice had been ignored and the nurses who requested new postings had therefore not been transferred.
This development, it said, discouraged the nurses and could encourage some of them to leave.

it's obvious! the nurses are being underestimated and are not being treated well in Malta. For example, the wage compared to other foreign countries such as England, is much lower... so how do they expect that newly recruited nurses are going to be employed?! A lot of graduates are leaving Malta to work in foreign hospitals!

I am one of the newely qualified nurses who was posted in the ward were i am presetnly waking by the DATE OF BIRTH !! All the new nurses were placed according to the date of birth. it was not my choice to work in the ward which i am presetnly working... do i have to wait years until finally my transfer is accapted??
3 of my colliges (newely qualifed) have already resigend and presently are working at a private hospital in the ward of their chose. 4 other did not even apply with the Departnet of Helath cos they knew that they had no chance to wrok in the ward they wished while 2 other nurses went to work abroad - all this out of a total of 22 nurses...do your maths...this is the current situation... i do not think this situation atteracts youths to apply for nuring

The rotation of nurses between postings is always benificial. but this could only be achieved if the number of qualified nursing staff is available .Today there are far to many SRNs and ENs occupied in outpatients departments doing the work that could easily be done by nursing aids and health care workers. and not using there nursing expertise and training.

This is absurd. Who is running the health department - nurses or the Management? Since when have the nurses themselves started giving orders to their superiors to have them transferred according to their own personal whims?

As someone who has been waiting for a transfer for 3 YEARS please allow me to point out that 'personal whim' does not describe all requests for transfer, I wonder which mile you have walked in my shoes before deciding that 'burnout' is not the correct term. I would love you to share one of our twelve hour stints if patient privacy had not forbidden it.

Hija haga normali li haddiema tac-civil li jkunu ghal xi raguni jew ohra jixtiequ jibdlu l-post tax-xoghol jitolbu transfer. Mhix xi haga li ghax titlob transfer tkun qed taqbez il-managment. Anzi hi haga tajba li infermier ikun kuntent fis-sezzjoni li jahdem ghax ikun jista' joffro servizz ahjar lill-pazjent

agree with M Cassar 100%...every now and then ALL nurses need changes due to burnout and high stress levels.
I too suggest that before commenting and saying stupidities Mr Farrugia first get to know the facts right and who knows.....get M Cassar advice and spend a couple of 12hrs shifts working in a hospital.
