Minister sees no need for Wildlife Crime Unit - ALE reinforced

Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici has declared that he sees no need for the setting up of a Wildlife Crime Unit within the police force.

He was replying to a parliamentary question by Labour MP Leo Brincat, who said the setting up of the new unit had been suggested by the FKNK and BirdLife.

The minister said that 24 officers were currently serving in the police Administrative Law Enforcement section. From April 23, that number was temporarily reinforced by another 25 policemen.

Therefore, Dr Mifsud Bonnici said, he did not see the need to set up another section within the police corps.

As long as the government does not force the courts and police to crackdown on illegal actions, crime will flourish in Malta.
The government seems to have an outlook on crime and punishment, which is just like the ostrich, sitck your head in the sand, and there is no longer a problem - yeah right minister you have grasped the situation perfectly. This is what happened in the UK, it went 'soft on crime' and what is the result we see now - the city centres, are no go areas, and no one is safe at night.

Are you sure you're still on the hunting topic or on a wish list of penalities for some serial rapist?

You're quick to come up with a list of suggested penalties, but conveniently do not account for the fact that almost every legal hunting practice has made illegal (as at present), subtly the hunter has become a poacher because almost all he practiced has been made illegal.

Oh if only such vehemence was shown for the real crimes like drug abuse and trafficking!

Quit trying to blow smoke. I think we can all agree that in many cases the punishment in Malta does not fit the crime.

However, in this case, we are speaking specifically about poaching. Not hunting. But what is this I hear? Are you advocating poaching? Because you didn't get your way, you're saying that hunters have been forced to become poachers?

I'm sorry, your logic does not fly. If the poachers had been dealt with long ago so that the level of poaching is equivalent to most other countries, I'm sure that the FKNK would have a much better bargaining position. However, the general consensus is that poaching is rampant in Malta.

This spring season was especially ironic. The FKNK wanted to name and shame those hunters willing to abide by the law for this season...but has said nothing about the poachers.

Mr Finch,
Can you please tell me what proof you have or any source from where yo brought the proof that the vandalism, violent attacks and racist graffiti were made by hunters?

I'll be waiting for your response because as long as I know not even the police did arrest any hunters. I'll be waiting.

Mr Finch do you know something we don't? I can still remember when an FKNK representative made an unsubstantiated allegation he was brought in for questioning. Mr Police Commissioner, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Mr Finch should be questioned accordingly!

Oh but I forgot, in our Malta one can trespass private property with impunity, conduct illegal investigations and enforcement, slander anyone, make false and unfounded accusations, as long as hunters as the target! You can also boast about this in public.....
So who cares any longer about what you say Sur Finch.

And what about the days when the entire ALE section is at the law courts?

Mr Debono you will have to make your trabokk because they are no longer sold.

While you are at it you will need to buy some land as well, because no hunter will allow you on his.

So it might be better if you simply buy your robins at $125 per bird or $250 per pair from

It would surely save you time and effort.
