Patients who are currently at Zammit Clapp hospital for long-term rehabilitation will be transferred to Karin Grech Hospital in a process which will take place on May 10 and 11.
A spokesman for the Secretariat for Community Care told timesofmalta.com this morning that Zammit Clapp - the former Blue Sisters Hospital - will be turned into an old people's home.
He explained that Karin Grech was chosen to assume the role of a rehabilitation hospital because it offered more beds. It is also expected to ease the pressure on Mater Dei Hospital.
Some 60 patients will be transferred to Karin Grech in the migration process. Karin Grech will offer services for 153 patients.
Zammit Clapp had originally been earmarked as an oncology hospital - taking over the role of Boffa Hospital - but the government later decided to build the new oncology centre on the grounds of Mater Dei Hospital.
