Renald Attard, 25 of Luqa and Shawn Falzon, 27 of Floriana were arraigned in court today for allegedly assaulting and injuring two policewomen in an incident at Club Numero Uno on Saturday night.
Mr Attard was accused of seriously injuring policewoman Roberta Garzia, slightly injuring PC Beverly Farrugia, and offending public morals.
Both men were also accused of violently resisting arrest and disobeying police orders.
Mr Falzon on his own was accused of slightly injuring the policewomen.
Police Inspector Dennis Theuma said these were serious charges and the incident had been witnessed by a number of people. He said that Mr Attard was a relapser, having been previously convicted of grievous bodily harm.
Dr David Gatt, for the defence, said the incident the prosecution had spoken about took place six years ago.
He said the main witnesses to this event were the policewomen themselves.
Police Superintendent Norbert Ciappara, speaking about Mr Attard, said that standing before the court was 'a bully' who had assaulted two policewomen who were doing their duty.
Magistrate Lawrence Quintano remanded both men in custody until witnesses are heard on May 10.
