I'm not sure a 20-year run is healthy for either party.

Having just driven across Europe in my car i can confirm that yes were cheaper than UK, France, Switzerland and Italy. However, and this is the most important part.
Do we get the same choice of quality fuel??? i don't see no super unleaded or super diesel, i also don't see a choice in petrol stations (BP/ESSO/AGIP etc etc) like you do in other EU countries, it's about time the monopoly of Enemalta finished and finally stopped being taken for a ride, literally.

I'm not smiling and I'll tell you why. I was unlucky enought to work in the oil industry in the worst possible period (1997 - 2003) when oil prices hit rock bottom. Hence my job was always threatened. A week after I left the industry, due to being sick of the uncertainty, prices rocketed to $45 and kept climbing. My ex colleagues are the ones smiling not me :(

Just in case you forgot, until January 2009, diesel prices were around the 1.15 euro mark. They were lowered by 25 cents per litre in January 2009. Nobody seems to remember that.

P.S. I don't like paying higher fuel prices either especially since I always owned gas guzzlers so please don't accuse me of being a hardcore nationalist who agrees with whatever price hike the government comes up with.

Well at least they have better fuel.

and just for your info, our prices are akin to the HIgher quality fuels overseaes (eg blue diesel and 98ron+ petrol).

For the price we pay I expect high quality fuel.

89 ron or less is not acceptable for the price we pay!!!!

Keep in mind, the prices on the web page you have linked are average prices from all suppliers in that country.
i.e. the consumer in those countries can chose to get their petrol from the garrage selling it cheapest in the area, now this price difference may only be 3 or 4 cents per ltr, but at least you have choice.
This is not an option available to the maltese consumer who due to the monopoly must pay the same price at every petrol station on the islands. i.e. their is no consumer choice in Malta when it comes to fuel.

@James Aquilina,

Until very recently, I would have been inclined to agree with you however, I travelled overland for a few days in March / April and never paid less than 1.22 euro per litre for diesel. Blue diesel was in the region of 1.36 euro per litre (price in Malta was 0.98 per litre). Furthermore, my vehicle smoked more than usual on Italian diesel and engine performance was exactly the same as it is in Malta. A few years ago, I would notice an instant increase in performance when I filled my tank in Italy.

Do you still believe that there is a party in the WHOLE world that goes into power for the good of the country? How wrong you are my friend! Sure PL will come up in power.... there will be change.... in 1 thing.... FACES.

I suggest you go and start reading Animal Farm by George Orwell.

If you want change you have to get yourself in power.... and that change will affect only YOU and those surrounding your gang.

Mr not the petrol stations, but what enemalta has stored and selling it at higher prices. That means enemalta is twice making profit, from previous stock, and present buy.It stinks, and there is very much more of corruption. Is fuel bought Crude or refined,? who is paying the refinery, and transport, it STINKS from Head to Tail.

What happened to the hedging?
And if the Government / Enemalta Hedged - Why are the prices of fuel still going up? We had many increases lately.
