John Terry has reiterated his desire to one day reclaim the England captaincy he lost due to off-field problems earlier this season.

The Chelsea skipper was axed from the role by coach Fabio Capello after allegations about his private life hit the headlines, with the armband handed to Rio Ferdinand.

Terry has always maintained he will continue to give his all for England even without the captaincy, but admits he still has a burning desire to skipper his country once again.

"When I had the meeting with the manager it was obviously difficult to take," Terry told Football Focus.

"But at the same time I respected him and I told him that nothing changes, I'll still give 100 per cent. I took it on the shoulders and moved on, there's no point in dwelling on it.

"The only way I can go about my business is to play well, hopefully be in the side at the World Cup and hopefully one day get that (captaincy) back."
