About 200 Form 4 students at the boys' and girls' secondary schools within St Margaret College, Cottonera, recently took part in a job shadowing exercise, which involves students being placed in diverse workplaces and linked with particular employees, whom they shadowed for a week.
Proir to the placement, the students answered a questionnaire to define their interests, following which they were split into small groups and assigned one of 57 jobs in various sectors, including retail, catering, insurance, manufacturing, computing, maintenance, real estate, architecture, and law-enforcement.
Through job shadowing, students are introduced to the world of work and observe people doing their jobs. If they are interested in a particular job they are more likely to embark on post-secondary studies in order to pursue that career.
