Manoel Island is set to become Malta's hub of World Cup excitement, with the creation of a "village" there dedicated to the mega contest.

Football fans and their families will have a dedicated place to enjoy the month-long football bonanza, with kick-off scheduled for June 11.

The village will feature "mega screens" to watch the games as well as a host of activities to be enjoyed by all the family.

So much will be going on it will be difficult to keep up with the full programme of events, the Malta Sports Council said.

The council is behind the village along with the World Cup Village Consortium.
