A 20-year-old Marsa resident was this afternoon remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to grievously injuring 11-year-old twin sisters Rebecca and Sarah Falzon in a hit and run accident on Wednesday.
The twins were crossing Triq Hal Warda in Attard after a Christian doctrine lesson. One of them was thrown violently onto another car.
Maximilian Ciantar was also charged by Police Inspector Elton Taliana of driving his father’s car dangerously when under the influence of drugs or alcohol, speeding, driving without a licence and insurance, not stopping at traffic lights and a zebra crossing and of causing €1,164 worth of damage to a car owned by Christopher Calleja of Mosta.
He was also charged with being a relapser.
Insp. Taliana described the charge as a crime against society and said he felt the accused should not be granted bail as he could not be trusted to stay off the road. Moreover, the police still had to interrogate his girlfriend who was with him.
