Laamouz beats Cortis in top bout

The Malta Boxing Federation have just held their first Olympic Style Championships in Naxxar.

The most-awaited bout was the one in the 64kgs category between Haithem Laamouz and Sam Cortis. By the third round, the technical superiority of Laamouz became more evident but he still had to fight hard to see off Cortis after a unanimous decision by the judges.

In the 69kgs, Peter Kahout outpointed Etienne Spiteri by a majority decision.

Philip Galea had the better of Mark Anastasi in a closely-fought U-75kgs bout.

In the U-81kgs bout, Yousef Shah stopped Joseph Camilleri in the second round to become the new Malta champion in this division.
