Last weekend, the National Fencing Association - Malta (NFAM) held the 13th edition of the National Championships that comprised five individual events in all three disciplines, Foil, Epee and Sabre.

The men's Foil, which has proved the most popular event over the years, was won by Pierre Bianchi. He defeated Andre Zahra 15-10 in a well-contested final. Bianchi also took gold at the Sabre event.

In men's Epee, Kurt Mifsud placed first after winning the final 15-12 against a defiant Zahra. For Mifsud, this was his first national title after clinching a gold medal in Foil at the SPFC Malta Open 2009.

The women's titles in both Foil and Epee were won by the emerging Caroline Farrugia. On both occ-asions, she beat Danika Formosa in the final.

The championships were supervised by NFAM technical director Nicky Bianchi with Alex Micallef assisting with computer scoring. The Spanish Ambassador to Malta, HE Isabella Vicandi, presented the prizes to the participants.
