Dual rugby international Jarrod Sammut has signed for Welsh team Celtic Crusaders. Sammut, who can also play wing, is in contention to face Bradford Bulls in Edinburgh tomorrow.

"It's a major coup to have Jarrod," Crusaders coach Brian Noble said.

"I think he is a class player with great skill and footwork. He was very highly thought of in the National Rugby League. He's the kind of player who can change the outcome of a game and he is also a superb goal-kicker."

Rugby League European Federation (RLEF) Malta Development Officer Anthony Micallef praised the move.

"It's a good move for Jarrod as he wasn't getting the time he needed in the first team at Penrith," Micallef said. "He should be able to be a regular starting player at the Crusaders and I'm confident the British game will suit him very much.

"It's also a good move for the Malta team, having him based in Europe, we could call on his availability for our internationals as it is a much easier exercise than if he was still based in Australia," Micallef added.

Sammut has played a number of internationals and Sevens rugby for Malta as well as becoming a dual rugby international when he played Rugby Union for Malta in 2008.
