Birkirkara-1 (Bajada 39) Tarxien Rainbows-0

Birkirkara won the Premier League championship for the third time in the team's history this evening with a 1-0 victory over Tarxien Rainbows.

Much to the delight of flag waving supporters who turned a section of Ta' Qali into a sea of yellow and red, the Stripes moved four points ahead of Valletta, which they will be facing in the final game on Wednesday.

Player of the match Shaun Bajada scored the game’s only goal on the 39th minute and although the winning team took many chances in the first half, they were more cautious in the second.

Tarxien midfielder David Camilleri marked his 400th Premier League appearance.

Celebrations are expected to continue well into the night at Valley Road, Birkirkara, which had been decked out for the occasion in the afternoon.
