An-11-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was injured in a hit-and-run accident in Ħal Warda Street, Attard, yesterday at around 7.45 p.m.
The girl, together with her twin sister, had just left the Attard quarters of the Christian Doctrine Society - MUSEUM when they were hit by a Ford Transit which drove on, the police said.
The girls were rushed to Mater Dei Hospital in an ambulance where one of them was found to be suffering from life threatening injuries, the police said. The other twin, who was also injured, was kept for observation.
Sources said that the girls' father witnessed the incident from across the street.
The accident was also witnessed by a number of people who gave their version of the incident to the police who acting on the information spoke to the owner of Ford Transit from Naxxar.
The search for the driver was still on late last night.
Duty Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit has appointed experts to assist in an inquiry.
