The Mediterranean Conference of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is to be held in Malta in October.
The permanent council welcomed Malta’s offer made by Foreign Minister Tonio Borg in Athens, for Malta to host the conference and accepted Malta’s proposal to address, from a Mediterranean perspective, themes currently being debated within the organisation in the dialogue on the future of European security.
The OSCE Mediterranean Conference is expected to bring together ambassadors and representatives from the 56 OSCE participating states and the six OSCE Mediterranean Partners for Cooperation (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia).
The OSCE Secretary General, senior officials from the OSCE Institutions and representatives of the OSCE Asian Partners for Cooperation are also expected to participate in the conference.
The organisation of the conference is part of Malta’s continuing efforts to promote dialogue, peace and stability in the Mediterranean and to position Malta as an ideal destination for conferences and meetings.
