A motorcyclist died and another was injured when their motorcycles crashed into each other on the St Paul's Bay Bypass.

The accident happened shortly before midnight.

The two motorcycles, both Suzuki, were thrown some 15 metres apart with the force of impact. The fatality was a 35-year-old man from St Paul's Bay.

Medical teams, rescuers from the Civil Protection Department and district police were on the scene.

The other motorcyclist, a 21-year-old also from St Paul's Bay, was hospitalised. His condition is not serious.

A magisterial inquiry is under way.
