Heavy fire in the south, all quiet in the north
The Committee Against Bird Slaughter yesterday reported more than 300 shots in Delimara while the situation was all quiet in the north.
Despite a large police and conservationist presence, hunters on the Delimara peninsula fired over 300 shots at turtle doves and raptors, Cabs claimed.
The shots, they said, came mainly from the Ta' Lombardi valley and the Ta' Ngraw area to its rear and Cabs president Heinz Schwarze believed "several dozen" people were responsible. He said he witnessed the "massacre" from Tal-Munxar with one of his teams.
The committee said it documented the illegal shooting on video but did not manage to get footage of a poacher carrying a weapon.
Mr Schwarze claimed the shooters were aware they were under observation and hid behind walls and small clumps of trees.
According to bird guard Leonardo Petrelli from Catania, they had lookout posts equipped with mobile phones, or walkie-talkies, passing on the position of the Cabs teams and the police to the poachers in the valley.
"What we saw this morning was organised crime at its best," Mr Petrelli said.
Another Cabs team, deployed in the Selmun Palace area yesterday morning, reported all quiet in the north, apart from five shots.
Alternattiva Demokratika Żgħażagħ condemned the recent attacks on BirdLife members and Cabs activists.

I read all the comments. In all articles published in the last weeks. But I still found no reason. Not one reason. Why do these men shoot the birds? Why? Does anyone know one comprehensible reason?

"What we saw this morning was organised crime at its best," Mr Petrelli said.
Filming of a poaching act with the star of the show evading the cameras! That’s a brilliant idea for the sequel to La Piovra series. Oh come on Mr Petrelli, if this poaching act is as bloated as you comment do we have to endure the terror of a camorra? I am all shivers just thinking about it!

Was not the season open yesterday? If i'm not mistaken the last day is tomorow. And if only 12 hunters were out and shot a packet of cartriges each; that's the 300 shots they heard. Wow that's a lot. What are CABS complaining about?

you are the one missing the point.
Despite a large police presence as you rightly pointed out "THIS ARTICLE DOES NOT MENTION THEIR (CABS) CALLING THE POLICE "
They would rather blame the whole farce upon "organized crime" then admit that the police were doing their duty.
Their making a mountain out of a mole hill is quite obvious, in this and all other "MASSACRES' they persist in trying to get the gullible to believe.
I condemn illegalities but also condemn those that try to inflate the noise of a fart into a ginormous explosion

First of all, you quite clearly stated, in capital letters no less, STRANGELY THIS ARTICLE DOES NOT MENTION THEIR CALLING THE POLICE OR OF THE POLICE BEING PRESENT.
Not just calling the police.
Also, why would they (CABS) call the police when the police were already there? It is you that is trying to twist facts in order to smear those doing the work (i.e. trying to prevent illegal hunting) that your group and the FKNK should be doing.
Also you say you condemn Illegal hunting, and the FKNK has stated it has a zero tolerance to it. But then you play down the fact that it is going on. You either condemn it, or you don't. Which is it?
It is interesting that you also accuse those trying to prevent the illegalities of a crime. What crime is this exactly? Please be clear in your accusations.
Come on Mark, as a leader of the second largest hunting organisation in Malta (how many members do you have again?) we expect more of you.

The title of this news article reminds me of the film "All Quite on the Western Front" !!!
I tend to think that scientific contribution should be given some more space here. Lead shot can be replaced with an environmentally friendly alternative. Advanced Highly Intellectual and Very Emotionally Intelligent German technology has potential grounds here, considering the environmentally friendly military technology it produces in order to extinguish human life but safe guarding the environment. German and Italian Shipyards are very good apparently in producing Environmentally Friendly military equipment like Submarines for example.
This participation of foreign collective experts should be reconsidered here. Do Maltese experts and pioneers of nothing participate in what goes on in Germany, for example ?
I swallow my Maltese pride and indeed feel ashamed. Very well done to Malta and I thank you very much for the passport you gave me.

300 hundred shots in Deimara and another of CABS reported massacres or to be more in keeping with their name, SLAUGHTER)
STRANGELY THIS ARTICLE DOES NOT MENTION THEIR CALLING THE POLICE OR OF THE POLICE BEING PRESENT.
With all their sophisticated equipment thay fail to "get footage of a poacher carrying a weapon". So what exactly are they trying to prove? Surely the 300 hunderd shots (if indeed 300) were recoreded over quite some time. So what prevented them from getting such footage?
I fully agree with Leonardo Petrelli from Catania, what CABS are doing is no less then "organised crime at its best".

Despite a large police and conservationist presence,.....passing on the position of the Cabs teams and the police to the poachers in the valley.
Even stranger is how you have appeared to have missed these 2 references Mark. It seems in you haste to condemn those reporting on those hunting illegally, you haven't really read the article.
You have yet to speak out against those hunting illegally this spring. It is these people who are the biggest threat to your 'hobby'. It just shows that you are indirectly supporting illegal hunting.

Petrelli and Schwarze don't interfere in our internal affairs.
As for Petrelli, I am surprised that coming from Sicily he doesn't know what organized crime is.
The title reminds me of the film "All quiet on the Western Front".

It is always amusing to see how the hunters always condemn those reporting and trying to stop illegalities and not those acting illegally. This will surely sit well with the EU commission when it receives its report on this spring hunting season. Its the coffin of your 'hobby' you are nailing gentlemen.
It seems a crime was committed in an organised way, ergo - organised crime.

Signor Petrelli..
You don't even know the meaning of "organised crime".. if you had to do the antics you do here in Malta in your own homeland, I am inclined to think that the consequences would be far more drastic !!!
Btw do give my regards to Herr Schwarze and Maj. Conin Esq.. tell them they are always welcome for coffee and biscuits !!! I mean.. after all they are only innocent birdwatchers with absolutely NO hidden agenda or sense of provocation are they..

"Organised crime"! Isma l-iehor!!
Get lost, Mr Petrelli and don't insult our intelligence. This is not the land of the Camorra, Ndrangheta or Mafiia.
Organised crime my foot. Try what you're doing here in some regions of YOUR country if you want to face some REALLY organised criminals.
