GreenPak Coop has installed new glass bottle banks in various spots in Attard. The new bins are meant to supplement those already available at bring-in sites. Since the "Recycle on Tuesday" door-to-door collection does not allow glass in its apposite green bags, GreenPak has supplied more glass deposit bins at various points of the locality for the convenience of the public's demand for extra glass bins.

According to statistics Attard residents are among the highest participants in the door-to-door waste separation scheme known as "Recycle on Tuesday". GreenPak is recognising the efforts of this community and is financing the new "Glass Bottle Banks" to help further the collection of recyclables. The money saved will be directed by the Attard local council to other worthwhile projects for the residents.

The acting mayor of Attard Stefan Cordina was the first citizen of the locality to make use of the new glass bottle banks.

He said: "This is a practical example how the local council is bringing the practice of environmental consciousness closer to the citizen while improving the locality's overall environment. The weekly door-to-door recycling collection and the recycling banks will reduce costs for our local council as now less waste will be sent to landfills and hence less fees will be paid by our council."

Attard is one of the latest local councils to embark on waste separation initiatives provided by GreenPak Coop, the Mepa authorised scheme operated by Green Dot Malta.

Green Dot CEO Mario Schembri, said: "Our experience in dealing with local councils that have already engaged GreenPak is a positive one as GreenPak's aim is to help local councils achieve higher environmental performance in a most practical, cost effective, efficient and easy way possible."
